PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A stormy afternoon resulted in a busy day for fire rescue crews after lightning struck two homes Sunday.

According to Plantation Fire Rescue, a resident located at 1241 SW 87 Terrace called and reported smoke in her home after it was struck by lightning.

Plantation Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found no fire, but instead, they saw smoke coming from the home.

Cecille Alexis was sitting home alone in front of her computer when the bolt hit her home. "I looked out and I ran because it was so loud, and then I looked outside, and pieces of the roof was on the ground. I started to smell smoke coming from there, and I called 911 because I didn't know whether it was a fire or not," Alexis said. Moderate damage was sustained to the home.

The second call came from a neighbor who saw lightning strike an adjacent residence. Fire crews responded to find an active fire at the residence. The fire was quickly put out. Some damage was sustained to the interior of the home after crews had to rip open an interior wall to locate the fire.

These lightning strikes come one day after similar incidents were reported in both Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. A gas station in Miramar remains closed after lightning struck the roof, leaving a hole in the roof and water damage in the interior of the store.

No injuries were reported in any of these instances.
