MIAMI Today, 15 deserving South Florida high school seniors will be notified that they will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship from local wireless provider MetroPCS. The recipients are winners of MetroPCS Community Scholars Program. Two of these scholars reside and attend school in Palm Beach County.
The distinguished Palm Beach County students recognized as part of this years Community Scholars are:
Melissa Chi. Melissa is a student at Palm Beach Gardens High School who plans to continue her education at either Duke or Stanford University. Melissa works to better her community by volunteering for Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and Light the Night.
Stacy Goldbaum. Stacy is a student at Boca Raton High School. She is looking forward to studying medicine at the University of Miami or the University of Florida. Stacy contributes to her community through volunteer work with the American Diabetes Association, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Caring Kitchen, Beach Clean-up, American Heart Association, and the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Fundraiser.
The Community Scholars Program was created by MetroPCS to distinguish high school students who demonstrate not only academic achievement but also outstanding community involvement and service. The goal of the program is to recognize those students who are involved in volunteer activities that give back to their community and to help them pay for a college education.
The 15 Community Scholars will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to further their educational and civic interests. Recipients will be recognized during a special on-field, pre-game ceremony at the Florida Marlins game on Friday, May 27.
