Local Dentists Fight Breast Cancer

Lerner & Lemongello Smiles for a Cause

Palm Beach Gardens, FL - Drs. Jay Lerner and Gerard Lemongello are taking philanthropy to a new level with Smiles for a Cause, a unique program to help in the fight against breast cancer.

“Many of our patients are women,” said Dr. Lerner. “We have watched some of them battle breast cancer, so it’s a very personal commitment for us.”

Smiles for a Cause originated with Lerner & Lemongello and is a thank you gift-that keeps giving. When a Lerner & Lemongello patient refers a friend or family member a $50.00 donation is made in the names of both patients to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation South Florida Affiliate.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation South Florida Affiliate is excited to benefit from the partnership and is pleased that the doctors are such socially responsible business owners.

In addition to the Smiles for a Cause referral program the doctors just signed on as Marathon Sponsors of the 14th Annual South Florida Race for the Cure® to be held on Saturday, January 22. The doctors are donating more than any private practice health care provider in South Florida.

“We are sponsoring this race to demonstrate that the high level of care that we provide is not limited to patients in our practice but available to the whole community,” said Dr. Lemongello. “We are doing this to recognize and support the many strong women who must fight this terrible disease. If what we are giving to fund the eradication of breast cancer can help just one woman in her battle, then we consider this program a huge success.”

Lerner & Lemongello selected the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation because of its critical mission and strong community ties. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women in the United States. Up to 75 percent of an Affiliate’s net income stays in the community. The South Florida Affiliate has awarded more than $600,000 in non-duplicative mammography & community grants in 2003-04 to medical and educational facilities as well as non-profit organizations in Palm Beach, Martin & St. Lucie Counties.
