John Herring joins School of the Arts Foundation Board

John Herring

John Herring, of Wellington, has been elected to the School of the Arts Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation provides funding for enhancements to the arts and academic programs at Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. School of the Arts. The internationally-recognized public arts high school is located in West Palm Beach but draws its student body from throughout Palm Beach County. It has been voted the Exemplary School of 2005 by the International Network of Schools of the Arts.  Approximately 250 of the school’s 1,300 students live in the Western Communities.

Herring is president of A-1 Building Components, which is headquartered in Wellington, and also has a 100,000sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Ft. Pierce.. He has 30 years experience in the structural components industry.

He has held a number of professional and civic leadership positions at the local, state and national levels. He served as the president of the Wood Truss Council of America (WTCA) in 1990 and was on its board for 10 years. In 1999 Mr. Herring was honored by his peers and inducted into the WTCA Hall of Fame.

Locally, Herring has served as president of the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County’s Wellington and county-wide units, and also served on the state board. Mr. Herring was one of the founding members of the Wellington Rotary Club, was its first official president, and he has served on several committees with the United Way of Palm Beach County.

Herring and his wife Linda have a son, John Korbet, and two daughters; Jenna and Jaclyn. Jenna is a communications student at Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
Herring joins fellow Wellington residents David and Mollie Bowers on the School of the Arts Foundation Board of Directors.
