BOCA RATON HISTORICAL SOCIETY RECEIVES
SCHMIDT FAMILY FOUNDATION DONATION

BOCA RATON, Fla. Boca Raton Historical Society recently announced that it received a $10,000 donation from The Schmidt Family Foundation in support of its children's education programs for the 2004-2005 school year. Primarily, the donation is being used for the Ticket To Ride school program, an interactive field trip in which children grades 3 through 5 experience what train travel was like in the 1930s and 1940s.  The program is held at the Boca Express Train Museum and is currently open to all Palm Beach County schools. Over 500 students participated in the program during the 2004-2005 school year.

This is a wonderful gift to our community, said Mary Csar, Executive Director of the Boca Raton Historical Society. Our previous funding only allowed us to staff the program part-time. This donation enables us to provide a fun, hands-on learning environment for more local school children who are eager to learn about the history of Boca Raton and we are truly grateful to the Schmidt Family Foundation.

The Schmidt Family Foundation provides funding to local organizations as a way to give back to the community which Charles E. and Dorothy F. Schmidt were a part of for so many years, and is committed to providing grants to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations that meet the Foundation's guidelines.

The Boca Raton Historical Society is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving the past to enrich the future. Now in its 33rd year, the Historical Society actively promotes historic preservation and education through its archival services, guided tours and educational programs.  Educational programs for children include classroom history presentations, tours of historic structures and scout badge programs.

Ticket To Rides offered by the Boca Raton Historical Society on school day mornings throughout the school year and is free to students.  Historic Preservation, local and Florida history, train safety and many FCAT skills and Sunshine State Standards are covered in the programs curriculum. For more information on the program or the Boca Express Train Museum, or to make a reservation, call the Boca Raton Historical Society at 561-395-6766 ext 107 or visit the website.
