BOCA RATON, Fla. Boca Raton Historical Society recently announced that it received a $10,000 donation from The Schmidt Family Foundation in support of its children's education programs for the 2004-2005 school year. Primarily, the donation is being used for the Ticket To Ride school program, an interactive field trip in which children grades 3 through 5 experience what train travel was like in the 1930s and 1940s. The program is held at the Boca Express Train Museum and is currently open to all Palm Beach County schools. Over 500 students participated in the program during the 2004-2005 school year.
This is a wonderful gift to our community, said Mary Csar, Executive Director of the Boca Raton Historical Society. Our previous funding only allowed us to staff the program part-time. This donation enables us to provide a fun, hands-on learning environment for more local school children who are eager to learn about the history of Boca Raton and we are truly grateful to the Schmidt Family Foundation.
