The Palm Beach County Cultural Council is the proud recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Sun-Sentinel Childrens Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation.
The grant will assist the Council with costs associated with Access Art, a program that builds the capacity of the 200+ arts and cultural organizations in Palm Beach County to serve low income children with arts education programming. Specific objectives include:
Planning and providing workshops for arts and cultural educators.
Preparing arts providers with new skills to connect arts and cultural education to Floridas Sunshine State Standards.
Coordinating with the Palm Beach County School District and after-school providers in qualifying the providers to offer programs to low-income children, K-8th grade.
To achieve these main goals, the Council will host a series of workshops and presentations throughout 2006 that will teach cultural organizations how to provide sustainable, standards-based learning experiences for students.
Arts in education is a critical aspect to a solid education, and with the help of the Sun-Sentinel Childrens Fund, the Council can help make arts programs more relevant and consistent throughout the County, says Rena Blades, Cultural Council President and CEO.
