Florida Art Education Leaders Gather in
Palm Beach County for Summit

The Palm Beach County Cultural Council is helping to highlight many of the county’s art education components at the statewide Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) Leadership Summit: Building Florida’s Future for Arts Education June, 13 to 15 at the West Palm Beach Marriott.
The summit features numerous workshop sessions, an awards ceremony, keynote addresses by Jonathan Katz, national Assembly for State Art Agencies and Dr. Larry Thompson, Ringling School of art and Design, plus two evening receptions. Various art education professionals from across the state will have the opportunity to plan, learn, and network among fellow leaders in visual and performing arts education.
This is the first time the conference is being held in Palm Beach County, and it is also the first time that the conference is open to all cultural providers. In the past, the conference was only available to members of select art education groups in Florida.
“This is a great opportunity to share with state education leaders the many Palm Beach County cultural organizations that contribute to our art education programs,” says Rena Blades, Cultural Council President and CEO. “This is also a great chance to learn what other educators are doing around the state and to help build even stronger relationships between art education providers and school administrators.”

Summit attendees will enjoy an art exhibit organized by Claire Clum, Curator of Education from the Boca Raton Museum of Art. The exhibit will be on display at the Marriott and features student works from:
Armory Art Center
Art Start
Bak Middle School of the Arts
Boca Raton Museum of Art
Lighthouse Center for the Arts
Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach
Resource Depot
Also at the Marriott, Poppi Mercier, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum, and Bill Metzger from the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission Board of Directors organized a DVD showcasing many of the visual and performing arts organizations of Palm Beach County. The DVD will run continuously in the summit registration area.
Attendees will see a broad spectrum of Palm Beach County’s youthful arts and culture, especially in the two evening receptions hosted by The Flagler Museum on June 13 and the Norton Museum of Art on June 14.

| Greeting visitors at the Flagler’s Welcome Reception will be twenty 12”x18” garden flags painted by students from various schools in Palm Beach County. The flags will feature images inspired by various art movements. There will also be a student art exhibit featuring works from schools such as:

The President’s Reception at the Norton Museum of Art will feature U/B. Kinsey Elementary School dance performance, a film from G-Star School of the Arts, two student monologues from Florida Stage; and a Dreyfoos School of the Arts fashion show. Attendees can also enjoy docent led tours of the galleries.
As part of the host committee, the Palm Beach County Cultural Council thanks the many wonderful groups that organized exhibits and performances during the summit and those who generously provided funds and/or services.
