Is It Real?

Astrologers are eager to tell you that they can predict the future, unfortunately their track record leaves much to be desired. There are times though, when their efforts bear fruit. The believers are quick to defend them and the skeptics are quick to debunk them. The truth does not lay somewhere in the middle but in understanding the realities involved.
Astrology can for purposes of making a point, be compared to predicting the weather. A weatherman can with reasonable confidence tell you months in advice that in July and August the temperature in south Florida will be in the 90 degree range during the day and the 80 degree range at night. They can also say that the chance for a hurricane occurring will be strongest in the first two weeks or so of September. Hurricane forecasters can now with amazing accuracy predict the path of a formed hurricane with computer simulations based on upper level air masses. They always in their predictions err on the side of caution, never forgetting the unpredictability of hurricanes. As the hurricane approaches they can amend their predictions and narrow down where the storm will hit. By monitoring the wind speed, size and other variables they can predict the potential damage the storm will do.
So too can an astrologer make an educated prediction. Much like the weatherman, who has a difficult if not impossible task trying to predict where any hurricanes will hit months in advance, the astrologer will have tremendous difficulty judging what part of ones life will be affected by a predictable crisis. Just as weathermen would be hard pressed to tell in advice the result of a storm on specific neighborhoods. (remember Andrew) An astrologer would be hard pressed to tell what specifically will happen.
Weather predictions are based in part on cumulative data acquired over years of observation. Astrological predictions are based in part on the same theory.
Hurricanes will affect people in part, according to their preparation for the storm. Predictable events will also be modified by the persons previous preparation in life. For example, a prediction of a storm may be made if the planet Pluto is approaching by transit (its 360 degree cycle around the sun) a persons natal sun. (the degree that the sun was when the person was born)
Obviously many people were born with the sun in the same place. Just how that person will be affected is much like a weather prediction. Why Hurricane Andrew hit some streets harder than others is impossible to predict. Nonetheless the storm was real. A prediction of difficulty by an astrologer would be fundamentally accurate. Predicting how it will hit and the damage it will do is much harder. As with Hurricane predictions, there is always that something else. The random unpredictability contained within the situation that can only, like quantum physics give us probabilities. The astrologer can glean insights by studying the natal chart and learning what environment the person has lived in. An astrologer also must have an idea what level the person lives at, As Carl Jung put it: What happens to a person is characteristic of himself.
People have a certain nature, once an astrologer grasps the patterns and traits in a life he or she can gauge predictive influences more precisely. This is a daunting task for even the most accomplished astrologers and a clear misrepresentation by those that claim they can predict our lives without knowing at what level we live. (There are times when the a chart reflects a period of benelovence or challege, breakthroughs or blocks. While these may be relativly apparant, still the degree and area would be comenserate with the the level at which one lives. More often than not many different themes occur at the same time, blending with the free will of the person. Clearly not an easy task even if the astrologer asks questions and gains insight into the life of the person.)
In a nutshell, astrology is the art of observing what happened in the past, when a pattern of planets were in a certain position. Finding patterns, documenting the results and using them to predict the future and the personality that reflects these positions. The next step is to observe the persons life and see how these patterns work in their specific circumstances and enviroment, and then come to an understanding of how the person relates to the configurations.
The history of these observations has left a pattern of observable effects that one can work with to understand a person. The ability to be precise is limited by the tremendous amount of variables and the individuality of each person. Any reasonable practitioner with real knowledge of astrology, who has observed the events in their own and their clients lives over a period of years can attest to the merit of the results. They can say with confidence that they can give insights and background information that will be of value. They also recognize the difficulty.
A good astrologer preferably with a degree in psychology, can at times perceive and make educated guesses as to events in the future and have remarkable results. They would have difficulty duplicating these results on a regular basis in part because of that something else that makes each person unique. People may respond differently to the same stimuli later in life according to how far they have progressed. In short as one learns and hopefully evolves they might live at a higher level react differently to same stimuli encountered earlier in life. There are reason that one might make valid predictions at one point and not another. At certain times, some charts have such a strong configuration of patterns coming together at one time that a prediction is easier to make.
There are detailed studies that have been made on the effects of planets in specific positions. A French mathematician, Michael Gauqulein set out to disprove astrology and in the process proved that it has value. Carl Jung the Swiss psychologist also compiled research and came to the same result. Still they were off base in that they calculated specific planets in relation to specific positions. Astrology is a study of patterns, that often, as in life present varied traits in each person. An astrologer must look for patterns that point to traits in a person. To that end it would be of considerable import if someone were to compile research, not only on a specific planet, but a grouping of aspects that all point to a trait in a personality. This could be done rather easily and would no doubt bring out relevant data that could be used confirm the general principals behind the accumulated observations of generations of astrologers.
The lasting impression astrology has on a person who has observed with interest its results, is a reverence for fate and the understanding that indeed their are times when astrologers may not be able to say with precision what will happen, but usually can say where they are in life and the tone of that stage, and can say with confidence to a person undergoing its effects that their is meaning to it.
Our fate lies in our nature and how we relate to stimuli according to that nature as well as how much we accept and understand our nature. A wise astrologer can at times glimpse into that by observing the stars.

You may feel physical and emotional tension today, Aries. Are you taking the time to care for your body? Has someone been putting a lot of pressure on you lately? Are you an emotionally satisfied person? The way you feel physically is a good indicator of your mental state. Try to go a little easier on yourself and you will see immediate benefits.

People love to be with you because you have such natural charm, Taurus. But today you may not feel especially charming or like talking to anyone. You may have a secret inside that's screaming to get out. If someone confides in you today, do you think you could confide in him or her, too? You should get an answer to that question today.

Your partner may be all over you today, Gemini! Are you in the mood to listen? Are you interested in some love? Probably not. You may have had a hard day and just feel like some quiet time together. You aren't up to the demands your partner may make on you. You don't need to worry about it. It happens to everyone from time to time.

You're often moved by emotion, Cancer. You like situations that make you feel alive. Today your love life may give you just that kind of adventurous feeling. If that's the case, don't get so far into your emotions that it becomes too much for you. There is such a concept as too much of a good thing!

You're a helpful person, Leo, yet in your relationships, you often seem to confuse helping with parenting. You tend to do a lot of self-sacrificing. Today you may learn how to say no when you feel your partner has gone beyond the limits of what you can give. If you do this, you may rediscover something essential you may have lost along the way - your ego.

Everyone needs to be loved, Virgo, but it shouldn't be your only objective in life. It isn't the end of the world if your charms fall flat every once in a while. Today you may be tempted to be a little less charming and seductive with the people around you. Some may even say you aren't acting like your usual self. Ignore them. A little self-indulgence now and then never hurt anyone.

There are days when a little humility can be good for you, Libra, and this might be one of those days. It's as if the planets are talking to you about sincerity and taking you far away from the trappings of superficiality and popularity. The things that are important to you today are much deeper concepts of humanity and compassion.

Your fiery willpower can help you move mountains, Scorpio. But you already know that. When it's combined with your legendary optimism, it's a powerful tool you just can't do without. Today you will reap the rewards for your hard work over the last month, in every aspect of your life. The fire that burns inside you and gives you your incredible determination has its limits. Don't misuse it.

Today could discourage even the most ardent of passions, Sagittarius. Even if some people say you're a bit cold, know that there's a veritable volcano burning underneath all that ice. Today you may once again find yourself at a distance from your feelings, as if you were regaining control over your emotions. Be careful about being too cynical about things.

Capricorn, you should try to be tolerant of other people's social and political positions. You may have to deal with certain people whose personal plans are jeopardized by events beyond their control. Don't judge them. Don't immediately defend one viewpoint without thinking how the situation affects the other person's life.

This is a day for doubts, for asking those hard questions that you need to answer. If you like to meditate, Aquarius, think about spending a little more time at it today. You could learn a lot about yourself. You will see the whole palette of human emotion in other people, from joy to disappointment. Where do you fit in?

It may seem that you've been accumulating a lot of excess nervous tension and stress, Pisces. Unfortunately, you won't be able to count on the people around you to make it any better. What your partner wants and what you want may not coincide. It could be time to think about reenergizing your relationship. How about planning a weekend away for just the two of you?
