THE FLORIDA BAR HONORS 50-YEAR MEMBERS- 2ND CIRCUIT

June 20, 2005

TALLAHASSEE -– One hundred-seven attorneys will be honored on Friday, June 24, for a half-century of dedication to the practice of law. The observance will be held during The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention, June 22-25 at the Orlando World Center Marriott, Orlando, Florida. To receive recognition, attorneys must be members in good standing and attain their 50th anniversary of admittance to the practice of law in Florida in 2005.

Among the honorees are former judges, a justice, legislators, law professors, founders of prominent law firms, and Florida Bar leaders. The Florida Bar celebrates their service to the profession, service to the community, and service to individuals by protecting their rights.

The 50-year members will be honored at a luncheon sponsored by The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division, June 24 at 12:30. Those being honored from the 2nd Judicial Circuit are:

THE FLORIDA BAR TO HOLD 2005 ANNUAL MEETING IN ORLANDO

June 20, 2005

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Bar will hold its 2005 Annual Meeting themed “Guardians of Democracy” June 22-25 at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Meeting highlights include the installation of bar officers and board members, nationally recognized speakers, luncheons, seminars, exhibitors, and social functions.

Attorneys Alan B. Bookman, of Pensacola, and Henry M. Coxe III, of Jacksonville, will take over the Bar’s highest elected offices on Friday, June 24, during the General Assembly. Bookman will be sworn in by Chief Justice Barbara J. Pariente of the Florida Supreme Court as the 57th president of the 76,000- member organization. Coxe will take office as president-elect before assuming the presidency in 2006.

The 2005 meeting schedule includes several featured speakers such as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy, who will be the keynote speaker at the June 24, 9-11 a.m. General Assembly, Chief Justice Pariente, Robert J. Grey Jr, president of the American Bar Association , and Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Dave Barry.

Continuing education topics to be presented during the meeting include “Addressing Predatory Lender Abuse” and “The Cyber-Law Tool Kit: What Every Practitioner Needs to Know.” Seminars will also address topics including professionalism, writing, animal law, health care, ethics, and trial techniques. Bar members may choose one seminar per timeframe from four days of seminars at no additional charge to the registration fee ($300 on site).

Additionally, 89 attorneys will be honored on Friday, June 24, for a half-century of dedication to the practice of law. To receive recognition, attorneys must be members in good standing and attain their 50th anniversary of admittance to the practice of law in Florida in 2005.
