TALLAHASSEE, April 27, 2004 -- Governor Jeb Bush has asked the 15th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission to seek applicants for a circuit court judicial vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Mary E. Lupo.
Applicants must be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar for the last five years, must reside in Palm Beach County and must be a registered voter of the State of Florida. Application packages are available at the Law Libraries of the main West Palm Beach and the South County Courthouses, at the information desks of the North County and Belle Glade (West County) Courthouses, at Palm Beach and the South Palm Beach Bar Associations. An application (without the letter of instruction) is available on the Bar's Web site (www.flabar.org). Applicants are encouraged to read the letter of instruction which accompanies the application.
Applications must be received at the Palm Beach County Bar Association, 1601 Belvedere Road, Suite 302E, West Palm Beach, FL 33406 by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004. Interviews will be held during the week of June 7, 2004 (tentatively June 10 and 11, 2004).

MIAMI, April 29, 2004 -- On Saturday evening, May 15, 2004, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Miami Chapter, will hold its Annual Installation Dinner Banquet at the Hotel InterContinental. To be honored are Barbara J. Pariente, Madame Chief Justice-Elect of the Florida Supreme Court, Her Honor Judge Rosemary Barkett, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and His Honor, the late Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Judge Barkett will receive FACDL-Miami's Gerald Kogan Judicial Distinction Award, in recognition of her extraordinary career contribution to criminal justice and the preservation of constitutional rights. Former Florida Supreme Court Justice Kogan himself will present Judge Barkett with the award. On Judge Ferguson's behalf, the Honorable Betty T. Ferguson will receive FACDL-Miami's Daniel S. Pearson-Harry W. Prebish Founders Award, in recognition of the lifetime commitment Judge Ferguson made to preserve the constitutional rights of all citizens. FACDL-Miami is privileged to have Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Fredricka Smith present this award to Commissioner Ferguson. FACDL-Miami will then have the extraordinarily high honor of presenting Madame Chief Justice-Elect Pariente, who will deliver the keynote address on our Legacy as professionals in the business of liberty.
